The

Communications

Advisor

PARTICIPANT
or SPECTATOR?

We are two communications agencies who want to share insights on how communications executives can become trusted strategic advisors. Through interviews in Sweden and Denmark, we found that the challenges — and solutions — cross borders.

What is IT about?

Global changes like the pandemic, conflicts, and AI have made executive communication increasingly vital. While core principles like the Business Context Model remain relevant, they must adapt to new realities. The model works across different contexts, as shown by similarities between Denmark and Sweden, with four key levels:
Macro Focuses on society’s role, aligning corporate strategy with societal values
Exo Addresses industry-specific changes influenced by politics and legislation
Meso Emphasizes internal communication, connecting purpose with behavior
Micro Requires communication teams to be agile and AI-literate
As challenges evolve, communications advisors must become active participants rather than spectators to remain relevant.

About
the book

In today’s fast-paced, complex world, effective communication is crucial for organizations and their leaders. While the role of trusted communications advisor to CEOs has become increasingly vital, there’s limited research on this practice.

This book combines academic research with practical experience to explore the communications advisor’s role. It’s designed for both practicing professionals and students in strategic communication. The book is divided into two sections: theoretical foundations and practical guidance for becoming a trusted CEO advisor.

ABOUT US

Curious about how communications strategies work across borders, Relations People in Denmark and Cloudberry Communications in Sweden joined forces to study this question, leveraging interviews, workshops and findings from The Communications Advisor book as our guide. Our findings reveal that while markets may differ, communications professionals share common challenges and can benefit from the same strategic approaches.
Let’s meet up! Please drop a note to Madelene Kornfehl at Cloudberry or Kristian Eiberg at RelationsPeople and we’ll be back in no time.
